RCW 69.51A regulates the medical use of cannabis.  This chapter defines and specifies the necessary guidelines that must be followed in order to comply with the medical cannabis statutes.  Possessing over one (1) ounce, or growing and/or distributing any amount as a “provider” or “patient” is illegal under Washington law; but if you follow the guidelines set forth under RCW 69.51A et.seq., it will provide you an affirmative defense in case you are charged criminally.  An affirmative defense allows you to argue that you were in legal compliance with the statute, thus not subject to criminal penalties.

Possession, manufacture or distribution of any amount of cannabis/marijuana under Federal law is illegal.
